SOLITUDE FARM RETREAT

PARTICIPANT RULES AGREEMENT

Welcome to our wonderful retreat.  We hope you will make yourself comfortable and will enjoy your stay.  We wish to make it a very positive experience for you.  We ask that you abide by some simple rules for your own safety and the wellbeing of other participants, farm animals and adjoining property owners.  If you have any questions please feel free to speak with me at anytime during your stay.

  1. Since we are all here for rest, relaxation and to learn about life on the farm, we ask that you keep noise in the house to a minimum, especially during sleeping hours
  2. We will not tolerate loud music, either inside or out.   Unruly, drunken and belligerent behaviors will also not be tolerated.  Law enforcement will be called if necessary.
  3. Alcoholic beverages(except for wine coolers) or drugs, other than prescription drugs, will not be tolerated.
  4. Tobacco in any form will not be tolerated.  This is a smoke free retreat.
  5. Visitors other than registered guests will not be allowed on the property.
  6. Open fires are not allowed except in the grill and fire pit.  There are certain days that  open fires are not permitted, when the weather service has designated them as Red Flag Day where the risk of brush and forest fires are high.  We are within a vulnerable area with lots of dry fuel and we must think of safety first.  Red Flag Days will be posted in the living area.
  7. When walking on the property, please close all farm gates ( we are not crazy about chasing our animals back to were they belong).
  8. Be careful when approaching farm animals and/or farm equipment.  Animals can be frightened easily(with resulting injury to you)  Remember a 2000 lb bull can move his head the wrong way and injure or even kill you.   Farm equipment is very dangerous.  Do not climb upon tractors and get out of the way of any that are moving, as the operator may not be able to see or hear you.
  9. Respect our adjoining property owners.  Do not trespass on their land.  Land is well marked at the boundaries, please observe the signs.  You may access the National Forest as you wish.
  10. During specified hunting days, please wear bright clothing when walking in wooded areas.  These days will be posted in the living area.
  11. Stay off the railroad right of way.  There is a crossing to the river that you may use.  It is against Virginia State Law to trespass on a railroad right of way and the railroad can prosecute you.
  12. When accessing our retreat, drive slowly and cautiously along both the county road and the farm driveway.  Our roads are curvy and are meant to be used with caution.  We don’t want you to be in  or cause an accident.
  13. Please make sure you turn off appliances in the kitchen when you are through with them.  Clean up your own mess.
  14. If you hear a smoke alarm, please proceed calmly to one of the two exits in the front and rear of the building.  These are marked by emergency exits signs.  Please gather on the front lawn, so we can take a head count.
  15. If you find yourself trapped in your room by a fire or smoke, please escape by the windows.  All are functioning windows that lift up.  Knock screens out as needed.
  16. Do not litter our beautiful pristine land.  Feel free to report any participant that you feel has violated the above , so that it can be addressed and we can all enjoy a wonderful time
